While David McDonald has been with OSI Group he has played a big part in the growth of the company. Before the 1980’s OSI Group only sold their products domestically and were primarily selling ground beef products. They expanded into Europe in the 1980s and started selling more products such as processed fruits and vegetables. In the 1990s they expanded into Asia. Nowadays they sell a huge variety of processed foods including seafood, chicken, beef, sauces, dressings, pizzas, and others.

In 2016, OSI Group made two large acquisitions in Europe. One of these was Baho Food which was a convenience food manufacturer in Denmark. The purchase of this company not only provided OSI Group with more manufacturing plant but it also expanded the scope of what they offer. When discussing the deal David McDonald talked about how what Baho Foods offered was a great compliment to what his company provided to their clients. He also said that the acquisition increased his company’s presence in Europe and allowed them to expand into additional countries, especially Eastern Europe.

The other big 2016 acquisition that David McDonald played a key role in completing was that of Flagship Europe in the UK. Similar to Baho Foods purchase this one allowed OSI Group to expand its presence and processed foods offerings. When offering a statement on the purchase, David McDonald said that it would help his company meet the changing needs of their customers in the years ahead.
